About

Mark Brooks is a licensed Robeson County attorney. Raised in Pembroke, he graduated from Purnell Swett High School in 2003. He received his undergraduate degree from Dartmouth College and his law degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He returned to Robeson County in 2011 to practice law. He has been a partner at Bowen & Brooks since 2018, and from 2021 until 2025, he served as Chief Justice of the Lumbee Supreme Court.Mark has gladly helped thousands of people navigate their way through a wide range of legal issues. Reflecting on his law career, Mark attributes his sense of professional fulfillment to the grace of God: “My decision to attend law school was not preceded by any pronounced sense of purpose. I was young and prideful, and afraid of failing to live up to expectations. But God was gracious. I believe He willed my law career for a purpose a younger me would not have cherished, to reflect Christ to people during some of the most difficult moments of their lives.”Mark has observed all too often that many legal problems coincide with pressing emotional and spiritual burdens. This has made law practice feel less about winning and losing, and more about caring for people with seriousness and dignity. Most recently, Mark announced his candidacy for Robeson County District Court Judge in the November 2026 election. He hopes to continue taking people seriously as a judge, who is trusted by all in Robeson County to be faithful and just.Mark is the son of the late Reverend Ted Brooks and Rosella Brooks. He is married to Andrea Harris Brooks and they have four children together, Jude, Ezra, Gideon, and Lydia. They attend Crossway Church of Pembroke, where Mark serves alongside the Elders and participates in preaching ministry.
